Enqueue App Reviews

Very slow...

If you a have lot of musics and looking for a iTunes replacement for a fast music search and play this is NOT a option. Very, very slow. Very disappointed...

Waste of money

I downloaded this app because of some of the hype it was getting in the ratings only to find that it is incredibly slow in playing HD music files. I get the spinning beachball of death regularly and it flags songs for no apparent reason, rendering them unplayable in Enqueue. Support is non-existent, none in the app itself, and no response to email to the author. VLC (free) plays the files just fine and even though it doesnt integrate with iTunes, at least it will play the tracks. Enqueue is a piece of junk and I have no idea how it got approved for the app store.

Best Alternative to iTunes, WOW!

Ive tried at least 10 music players in the effort to find a better alternative to iTunes*. Enqueue is fantastic. Its lightweight, speedy, allows for quick tag editing, and it syncs the changes back to iTunes (but you have to refresh your iTunes library by changing the media folder). Its great to be able to click an album, an artist, a genre, etc and quickly change the meta tags. Unlike iTunes, Enqueue doesnt have a tedious process to change the metadata. The new tags stick to the songs because they are part of the file. iTunes has a pesky habit of overwriting your new tags, especially when swapping computers. I use multiple laptops throughout the day, swapping one for another as their battery power declines. Since my 160gB music collection is stored in Dropbox, the changes are immediately visible. That means I can change the tag on a song and it will upload to the cloud immediately. This is incredible compared to iTunes. Even with iCloud, the changes dont convey over the cloud immediately. Plus, I dont have to deal with refreshing my iTunes library every time I open it. Enqueue has a speedy interface that is intuitive and easy to use. Its exactly what iTunes used to be, if you stripped out all the bloated advertisements. Data that was added via iTunes, such as album artwork didnt always convey over, but thats understandable. That data is connected to iCloud and iTunes Match--not directly to the data file. Unfortunately Enqueue doesnt provide iPod support. However, if youre successful in syncing the iTunes library with your Enqueue changes, this really doesnt pose a major problem. I would still like to see iPod device support in the future Enqueu updates though. The other con is that there is not any documentation or user guide. I had to figure out how to accomplish some more advanced changes to the music on my own. Perhaps in time it will though. Its still a baby as far as growth goes. Good things will come. Enqueue is well worth the small investment. Best few bucks Ive spent on a music player. I wish they offered a demo version, as it would encourage more users to test it out. *Besides the fact that iTunes doesnt support FLAC, its super slow. When I try to run it conjunctively with Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Bridge, Adobe Photoshop, MAMP & etc, it causes my computer to run super slow. Turn iTunes off and its lightening fast. Exchange iTunes for Enqueue, and theres no decline in performance. Also, the tag info for the songs is readily available in Enqueue. You dont even have to right-click on a song to find it. This makes tweaking your music library a breeze. GREAT music player.

Seriously flawed

Playlists dont import; Cant change the view; Cant move the columns; all this does is duplicate a lot of the flaws already in iTunes. Dont spend the money.

Equlilizer needs to go away

The app is great. My sole gripe is the EQs propensity to randomly turn itself on, and the sound it produces is awful. The developer should either do some work on it or—better yet—make it go away.

Really great app.

Definently the best 3rd party music library app on OSX. Like most people, I got it for its FLAC support, but it has some really awesome features like Last.fm scrobbling and watching a folder for new music that I didnt know about when I bought it. One of my favorite features of Enqueue is it changes the actual metadata of the music file when you change the album art. Small, but pretty useful. It would be nice if this app was more customizable, but even without customizability, its great. I would definitely recommend this to any fans of FLAC or Last.fm on OSX.

Exactly what I was looking for!

This app is pretty much the perfect media player. I use it to watch a folder on a network fileshare for new songs, and whenever I add new music files to that folder (and its subfolders), they show up instantly in Enqueue. The queue of upcoming songs in the sidebar is brilliant--how has no other music player displayed the queue like this before? Its so obvious now that I see it. Literally the only thing I wish this app has that it doesnt is drag-and-drop in the queue, but hopefully that will come in the 1.1 release ;-) Very polished for a 1.0 release. Highly recommeneded!

piece of JUNK

This app has the potential to be great if it worked and the developer actually supported it. The app stopped recognizing my FLAC files in my folders. Even when my files where recognized you cant play songs via Finder either by double clicking or selecting "Open with" and compilation tagging was always a nightmare. DO NOT BUY THIS APP! Everyone posting positive reviews probably hasnt had enough time with it. The developer basically released his final version and abandoned it. I sent numerous emails to no avail and you can check the twitter account and see it hasnt been active in years. In fact you can see on twitter that the dev knew there were still ongoing issues with his app. 2 years later and its still on 1.0.1

Works but has come weird ways of doing things

Such as, the Gear button in the mini-player. Its function ought to be to load up an iTunes playlist. But no, its a "save-as" function that allows you to over write an existing iTunes playlist. I dont see the point? Its a wasted feature. You cant drag an iTunes playlist into the main player song queue. You have to double-click the playlist and then you can drag the songs. Why not allow dragging the entire playlist if you want it? I dunno. Since iTunes 11 is now a real piece of junk, these other options become more interesting. Enqueue works well enough. Id just like to see it include more intuitive interface and usability features. All in all, pretty well done for a version 1.01.

Great App - A Couple Big Changes Needed

This app is great -- I love having an iTunes-esque music player that can integrate with my huge iTunes library in addition to my FLAC content from a separate folder. Ive had a few moments where I found myself wanting to go to the iTunes store and had to be reminded that this app is solely for playing music and playing music well. All it took was a couple days of changing my routine to really enjoy having this program that JUST PLAYS MUSIC. Its great. Having my music from an actively-changing playlist is also great. I love having the option to browse my music, and to have a RIGHT NOW PLAYLIST being formed according to what I want to listen to RIGHT NOW, but it needs a couple alterations for my taste. Some things I find myself wanting that would make navigation a lot easier: 1. An option to make double clicking a song add it to the bottom of my Right Now Playlist, instead of adding the whole album and playing the song immediately. Right now, double clicking a song seems to work much the same way as it does in iTunes, but it doesnt have to. This is a separate app altogether. I would love having this as an option. My ideal setup: doule clicking on a song in my library adds it to the playlist on the left, and double clicking on a song in the playlist plays it now. Or perhaps a "Playlist mode" where this happens, and otherwise double clicking works the same way it does now. 2. Smart Playlists. I can only assume these are already in the works, considering how well-designed this app is already. Enqueue also didnt import my Smart Playlists or Genius Playlists from iTunes, which surprised me. I expected those to be imported as regular manual playlists, regardless of whether or not Enqueue would have the same sort of "Smart" functionality. I dont need that, I just want the lists of songs. 3. An option to have the Library Browser appear on the Left AND show Genre, Artist, and Album instead of just one. (This is how I have always used iTunes and it would make my migration over to Enqueue WAY easier.) 4. Enqueue is unable to change its Audio Output source without being restarted. I use Bose Companion 5 speakers that plug in with USB, and whenever I plug them in or take them out I have to restart Enqueue, or else it makes no sound at all. The same goes for when I plug in/take out my headphones. 5. Enqueue isnt actually as fast as I had originally expected it to be, considering the other reviews. It takes longer to start up than iTunes and has some difficulty when I want to search for a particular song/artist, or change the sort order of the items in my library (alphabetizing by Album instead of Artist, or Track Number, etc.). 6. Enqueue cant handle CDs. Id love to be able to use this for importing CDs in FLAC format instead of having to use Songbird. I know I can always use iTunes to import in Apple Lossless, but Im trying to use this to replace iTunes, right? 7. Airplay. Im not even sure if this is possible due to Apples licensing, but I thought Id put it out there. This is just something Id like to see, not something the app necessarily needs. 8. The ability to turn off Growl notifications from within Enqueues Preferences. Im really excited to see what comes of Enqueue. Im in the process of upgrading my music library to FLAC and Apple Lossless, and itll be nice to have it all in one simplified music player. UPDATE MAY, 2013 Well, I cant honestly remember the last time Ive used Enqueue. Basically every major function that I both appreciated about Enqueue and all the things I wanted out of it were handled in this past years big iTunes update. Thought this was important to note, especially since in all this time Enqueue hasnt received any updates at all. Doesnt bode well.

Mediocre, slow, no updates in over a year

I want to like this player, because of its clean interface and support for lots of file formats. But its just not there yet, and the developer appears to have abandoned it. Based on other reviews, 1.0.1 has been out since at least March 2012, and there have been no updates since. A few issues Ive identified: 1) hangs up if the USB drive containing the music becomes unavailable 2) random play isnt very random - this is really irritating. I have 85k tracks, of which maybe 1000 or 2000 are comedy. Random play gives me George Carlin every 5-10 tracks. Pretty lame, especially since it is really easy to get high-quality random numbers on a mac. 3) database scan takes forever, and hangs up the app while its happening. I just moved my music to a new network drive and its been scanning for at least an hour. During this time, the UI beachballs for several seconds whenever I try to do anything. I have a retina macbook pro with a quad i7 - it is not a resource problem. 4) developer does not respond to support requests.

Great for playing FLAC, but...

it tends to hang often, and theres no AirPlay support. Address those two areas, and Id have no problems giving it 5 stars.

a niche player for full album lovers

This app isnt for everyone. You may prefer Enqueue to iTunes if you prefer listening to and "enqueueing" full albums. I also find that its folder scanning is *much* faster than iTunes, especially if your music is on a network drive. It could use some updates for minor features and polish, but it is very usable as it is now. My wishlist: * Output to Airplay speakers * Sort by album, with album art in a column (IIRC this is possible in iTunes) Pretty small list! update: it now crashes regularly when scanning my library. Not so fun.

The Best Music Player for Me

I’ve used Vox, iTunes, VLC, Ecoute you name it, I’ve used it if its on the appstore. I have a large library of FLAC albums with loads of metadata, comments and compilation notes (jazz albums mostly). WOAH This application is the most elegant solution to my musical needs on OSX. Bravo to the dev.

Love it

Finaly I found a good player for my High Resolution audio files.

Keeps crashing

despite it being the only app to hold a FLAC and OGG library, nearly every time i open the app it crashes… requested a refund

Terrible

Crashes when opening. Terrible. Don’t buy.

Solid but lacks customization

It’s a great and efficient application, I just wish that I could customize it and change the appearance like foobar on Windows.

Excellent but we are all waiting for an update

This is such a promising application, without the hassle of iTunes and its annoying prompts for Apple Store PW, etc., and I highly recommend it! It also supports FLAC files purchased on Qobuz or other websites providing high-quality music. There is one caveat, though: the developer needs to show a sign indicating that he will keep working on this application. Please provide an update and keep this alternative alive! I am sure that there are thousands of music listeners who are eager to use this application if they trust it will remain supported in the future.

No instructions

I am pretty computer savvy but there are no instructions of any kind. I tried to create a new playlist but there doesn’t seem to be any way to add songs to it. Can’t find a way to alphabetize anything. A very very strange program. It does have a far better quality when the music plays though, than iTunes.
